The Stolen Jools (Also known as ‘The Slippery Pearls’) - 1931 – Black & White. This star-packed short film was intended to raise funds for the National Variety Artists Tuberculosis Hospital, ironically it was produced in association with a cigarette company! In a Los Angeles police station, it is reported that Norma Shearer's pearls have been stolen. A detective is sent to the actress' home to interrogate party guests, most of whom are famous Hollywood stars. The detective ends up chasing leads all over town, ending up at a movie studio, where he learns the truth behind "the slippery pearls." Also features Buster Keaton and Edward G. Robinson. A non-stop chucklefest!
The Sawmill - 1922 – Black & White. Featuring Oliver Hardy and Larry Semon – chaos in a Sawmill? Could be dangerous – ouch!
The Tree In A Test Tube - 1943 – Black & White. A short public service film about the many uses of plastic! THE TREE IN A TEST TUBE was made as a non-theatrical industrial film. It utilized the services of Laurel & Hardy to help convey a message, aimed at wartime audiences, from the United States Department of Agriculture about wood-related products. Laurel and Hardy shot their brief, wordless bit over a lunch hour (while filming Jitterbugs) and the narration for their scene was provided by Pete Smith, who was then producing and narrating very funny short subjects for MGM. Only interesting because, as long as The Rogue Song remains lost, it's the only film The Boys made in colour.
