Recreation - 1914 – Black & White. Oddly enough, the cause of our hero’s mayhem is his affection for a young lady! This time, the focus of Chaplin’s attention is the girl friend of a sailor. Coupled with the inclusion of a couple of Policemen, Chaplin has to be at his best to avoid trouble – this he does by pushing Policemen and Sailor into a park lake!
A Woman - 1915 – Black & White. This time, Chaplin himself becomes the dame at the centre of male admiration! In an attempt to escape the clutches of two rivals in love he dresses as a woman, shaves off his trade mark moustache and hey presto! – not a bad looking dame! The rivals fall for the disguise and Chaplin tries to make his escape, only to fall foul at the fathers hands of the true beauty.
The Rival Mashers (Those Love Pangs) - 1914 – Black & White. In a tale of the movies and women, Charlie finds himself in the enviable and, for him, unusual position of winning the hearts of two fair maidens at the same time. He then falls asleep! And he then gets thrown the screen of the cinema!
A Night in the Show - 1915 – Black & White. An ‘elegant’ gentleman, too much to drink, a married woman, spilt beer, snakes and a snake charmer, a tomato fight, an ice cream fight, a fire eater and a fire hose – ahh, that’ll be a Charlie Chaplin film then! This film is based on one of the stories often performed by Chaplin when he was still a star of the stage.
