Published by Faber & Faber Ltd, 24 Russell Square, London. This edition printed & bound by R. MacLehose & Company Ltd, The University Press, Glasgow. The publishing date of this 11th edition is 1955. Book in fair condition with beautiful classic design with plastic cover to protect paper sleeve. This ambitious collection is intended to cover the whole field of English comic verse, including nonsense, parody and comic satire, but excluding what is usually called light verse or vers de societe. It ranges from the 16th century Wife Who Would a Wanton Be to parodies of Yeats and Eliot, and from Henry Parrots Cares for the Itch, down past Professor Porson and the standard limericks to Henry Graham and E.E. Cummings. The Faber Book of Comic verse edited by Michael Roberts is well up to the Faber Standards and perhaps that is praise enough New Statesman
